Elliot Lake Standard - Fabris
The heading in Todays Standard is about Rene Fabris statement , that the city never made an offer to buy the mall property
I could have told Robert Nazarian that he would bite the bullet on that one.
I don't recall being asked for my input but definitely like everyone else in town "I could have told you so

Understand the demographics before making a hasty move !
This is a retirement community and the very last move for many residents.
Once the Nuclear Capital of The World , it always will be where the remnants of Uranium
mines and tailings leave their trace for millenniums to come . Where Quirk mines was , is above the Dunlop Lake watershed and water flows south. Elliot Lake and The Serpent River water ways
will not be immune from any spill overs.Horne Lake was slated for the sewage disposal for years
and it flows into Elliot Lake where the best of the shoreline is occupied by the municipal garage.
Some problems have been resolved and some will never be
If cottage life appeals to you ,do your homework , easy to get into it but difficult to get out
and the taxes can consume you.
I am very partial to suggesting alternatives "Go North , further North !"
Live well eat well fish well.... Avoid Elliot Lake like the plague , like a cancer
...of course I am spewing sour grapes....
resident since 1955 , I saw it boom and crash flushed and reflushed with recycled funds !!!!
Smelling the Roses
For instance it is smog free and there are not hoards of people.
Just a few going around and around all day long. going to Tim Hortons and McDonalds , except for today they had a grease fire.
Seniors are often hard of hearing and have poor vision so it makes it all the more interesting for Traffic control and seems to keep everything way under the 60 and 40 kilometer speed limit so not everyone is annoyed with speed traps ! The nice part with the old folks they do not seem to loose the sense of smell , so if you pass away you will not be gone and forgotten for very long. This post is to cheer up a friend of mine who recently moved here
and I could not think of anything else to say that would tend to be uplifting

About The Mall... Whom is not to blame ?
I saw it coming and even told my wife "This place is going to come down !" and did nothing about it.
The courts will not bring her back.
The Honourable Paul R. Bélanger, Commissioner of the Elliot Lake Inquiry, released his report 10 days after my birthday.
I hate to sound pretentious, but I could have done the report a lot cheaper and come out with a much better conclusion.
Idiots should not be allowed to build malls in Northern Ontario and have parking lots on top
and be able to patch leaking roofs with putty
or have big trucks and snow removal equipment aggravate the situation.

Chose your Contractor
Some so called contractors are desperate miners
searching for a trade before they hit rock bottom.
My house on Canberra Crescent had shingles with nothing
at all underneath and flashing that was installed in six inch lengths
New windows installed with no insulation. If you think you are getting a bargain and by paying premium prices to the contractor you will be ahead of the game
think twice as the only thing getting properly screwed can be YOU
Inquiry for the Millions
I was present at the Mall collapse and witnessed the whole rescue event
ask the politicians, they now me , we spoke about the tragic event.
I spoke to several reporters and was interviewed.
I was shocked when the rescuers quit the rescue operations
for their own safety. " They are married men with families ! " I was told by their chief honcho.
Meanwhile a chap from Ottawa who participates in International Rescue Operations was there with all his equipment and they refused him access
to the scene. He offered his services at no charge , same as the experienced
Elliot lake miners. They let poor Lucile trapped to die and we are now told it took two days.
The inquiry costs millions of dollars and what did it serve ?
Bullshit baffles brains as Carol Beemer would say .
I can sum up the whole story for Free :
1- idiots from Algoma central built a mall just like a previous one that had collapsed (Cars and snow and heavy equipment don't go in Northern Ontario)
2- The city and retirement living took over the Mall and found a sucker
to take the blow as they saw what was coming.
Zellers had a lot of pails and they used them to capacity to catch the Drip..Drip... Drips year after year !
When the bank moved out and the anchor tenants they denied it was a sinking ship and waited for somebody to die.
Of course no one recalls ... In my seat belt episode the crown does not recall that it was their prime witness that did not show up and not my interpreter . A city for Alzheimer " Elliot Lake mind your Jewels "

A very nice little community:
Elliot Lake Retirement Living have good intentions in wanting to attract seniors
Perhaps it should be a wheel chair only community as
driving a vehicle can be very costly
Along with Seniors the community has attracted an abundance
of OPP : Elliot Lake would be better as an Ontario Provincial Police
Training Center subsidized by Tim Hortons.
If you move here to save money beware because you may find your pension dwindle. I would rename Elliot Lake to Vulture City.
I think the OPP are given Quotas and they have to perform to keep their jobs.
As you come into the city there is a 60 kilometer speed limit at the bottom
of a hill , This supplies a lot of funds for the OPP as the ticketing possibilities are almost limitless.
In Elliot Lake there is no shortage of seniors or police vehicles.
Periodical spot checks are done :
You may be stopped on a Sunday morning and asked if you have been drinking, If you say NO ! You maybe asked if you had communion.
I was stopped two years ago for not wearing a seat belt and I am still in court pleading my case, My next appearance will be in September 2018.
I have a heart condition and the Crown is obviously praying that I do not meet my demise before they cash in.

You will have Gay Pride Parades and Pride Church services and a lot of attention. Do not even be concerned about The SHOP UNTIL YOU DROP
issue , there is no place to shop .
OPP and Welfare candidates flourish in this community and seniors come here to perish , considered almost like pet rocks but by no means a place to get stoned.
